Captain Jack interviews Tori Black

I started doing interviews on a whim in April of 2013. Here we are, 13 1/2 months later and I’m on my 100th interview. I thought to mark the special occasion, I should do it with someone special. There is no one more special that this industry has scene in this century than Tori Black. She is my all-time favorite star and left (hopefully temporarily) at the top of her game. Tori is the only 2-time winner of the AVN Performer of the Year award and deservedly so. I had a chance to talk to her recently and I was thrilled that she took the time out of her busy schedule. We were interrupted by a crying baby so hopefully there will be a Part 2 to this chat. Thank you Tori! I really loved talking to you! And special thanks to her husband Mimefreak for setting this up.

Captain Jack: Tell me about Tori Black. What was your life like pre-porn?

Tori Black: I grew up a tomboy all through my elementary and junior high. I always played outside and mostly hung out with guys. Girls seemed too catty for me. I liked playing sports and hanging out with the boys. That lasted until junior high when I got a little girlier.

CJ: When did you lose your virginity?

Tori: I was 13 years old. I was very, very young. I guess guys became a perk for me. (laughs)

CJ: Were you promiscuous after that?

Tori: I definitely enjoyed myself. It was more so that I had a select few partners who I experimented with. It wasn’t until college that I really started to sleep with more people. I think there were maybe 3 or 4 in the 5 years after I lost my virginity before college. It sounds promiscuous but it was just that I was with the same people a lot. I had a lot of sex.

CJ: What about girls, were you with girls before porn too?

Tori: Oh yeah. I was with girls before I was ever with guys. I was with a girl when I was 12. I was the girl who turned other girls out. (laughs) I was kind of like a guy in that regard. I was “let’s do this!”, “let’s do that!” Always trying to get them to do stuff with me. I had a good time. I taught a lot of girls how to kiss.

CJ: I read where you were a rambunctious teen, did you really hit a girl in the head with a baseball bat?

Tori: I did. Well that’s a problem when you go and attack somebody with no real good motive then they tend to get upset and come back at you. The girl had it coming!

CJ: How and why did you decide to get into the adult industry?

Tori: I was in college and I had to go home for the summer. I couldn’t afford to stay on campus. My family was paying for my room and board and my tuition. During the summer, they wanted me to get a job and support myself. The only problem was, they refused to let me work during the school year. So there were virtually no jobs available only for the summer. So I looked on Craig’s List and I thought it would be cool to be one of those dancers in a club, those girls that just stand up there and dance all night long. I could do that because that’s what I did anyways when I went to a club. I was looking through all these ads and no club would let me in because I was 18 and you had to be 21 because they served alcohol.

So I stumbled across this ad for an agency and it said ‘Do you want to earn $20,000 a month?’ For a college student, for most people, your eyes pop out of your head. Um, yes? The job was for a porn agency and I thought, ‘I can do this, let me just send in my pictures.’ So I sent them in and they got back to me right away and said they’d pay for my flights both ways, they’d pay for me to go there and if I didn’t like it, they’d pay for me to go home. I thought that was perfect because I didn’t have any money. So I went to all my friends and said, “OK guys, what do you think? Should I be a porn star or not?” And everybody was totally gung ho for it. They said they’d be my biggest fans and supporters. So I packed up a big suitcase with all my belongings. I got there and I was completely green. A month in, I was deciding to move to LA to continue to work in the industry. Shortly thereafter, my whole family knew what was going on. I had planned on going back to school but at that point, once your family knows, you’re like, eh, so I kept going. And then the next thing you know, here I am!

CJ: How did you come up with your stage name?

Tori: Well, we were all really wasted and I went over it with my friends. We were really, really drunk and they told me Tori was a really hot girls name, I didn’t really know why. They told me they were going to be my biggest fans forever and they were my good friends so I kind of had to go with whatever they picked and I became Tori Black! I had nothing to do with it.

CJ: So are they your biggest fans? Do they still support you?

Tori: It’s been a long time since I talked to them but the last time I did, everyone was so cool and so supportive. I got calls from everybody when I was on the cover of Penthouse. They came out of the woodwork! Everyone said they were so proud of me. Ex-boyfriends called me and said, ‘I can’t believe you’re a pornstar! I wasn’t with just anybody and now you’re making me look bad.’ I was like, ‘look bad? Whatever’.  That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard. But the people who named me have always been very cool and supportive. Some of them have families now and everybody grows older and goes their own way, but they’re still supportive.

CJ: For the record, what was your first scene because everyone’s always wondering. And what was it like, were you really nervous?

Tori: My first actual scene was a shaving scene. My test results didn’t come back right away so I did a solo scene. My first porn scene ever was shaving my pussy. For porn people who are used to the different fetishes, that’s all quite normal. But for an 18-year old girl who was still having sex with the lights off, shaving yourself on-camera was quite different. Do I moan like I’m enjoying shaving myself? Is it like masturbation? I didn’t really know what I was doing. So for that one, I was quite nervous because I wasn’t really familiar with the fetish. That was kind of like, “Ooooh, do you like the way I shaved that?” I was questioning myself, what was I saying, what was I doing? (laughs)

My next scene after that was a boy/girl and that was much more comfortable because, of course, I was much more comfortable having sex with other people than I was in shaving my vagina.

CJ: Who was that first boy/girl scene with?

Tori: It was with a guy named JT. He was down in Florida. He never really had much popularity but he shot a lot with Reality Kings and BangBros. My first scene was for Filthy First Taste. I remember it like it was yesterday because we went to dinner. I got a hamburger and then we went up to the room and shot in a hotel room. It was easy, everybody was really cool. They told me how to angle my body and they were pretty complimentary. My next three bookings were all for Red Light District. Mark Wood, Juan Cuba and John Strong had all come out from LA to shoot these amateur girls out in Florida. They all said that I had to come out to LA and said I would be successful. Juan Cuba is the one who really convinced me so now every time I see him, he says, “See? I told you so!”

CJ: Thank God for Juan Cuba!

Tori: (laughs) Right?

CJ: If a new porn fan is reading this today, what would you tell him is the ultimate Tori Black scene? Or scenes?

Tori: Ooh, that’s rough. I would say the best way to break them in to me would be the Pretty Filthy Series. And the reason I say that is because that was really when I was the most open and the most comfortable in expressing myself. I was in my prime. It was a really good point in my career and I got to shape both those movies. Mason and I worked together a lot and we came up with the concepts together. I got to pick out the people, which helped a lot. I think those are the best movies to get an intro to Tori. There are so many movies. Some people like my feature work. A lot of people want me to play Catwoman. Or they want to watch me in the Partridge Family. There are my different aspects of my career so it really depends on what they want.

CJ: You know, I still have to see Pretty Filthy 2. I have to get that one of these days.

Tori: You haven’t seen that yet? It’s the only DP I ever did in my life.

CJ: In Pretty Filthy 1, was that really a shock that Manuel was doing anal with you? He didn’t know beforehand?

Tori: When we talked to him, he said he suspected it but he didn’t really know. He says he was waiting because he always wanted to. So it was always on his mind. He didn’t know that we were doing it that day. That was a genuine reaction in the movie.

CJ: It’s like Christmas! You may suspect something but not know for sure. And I can’t think of a better present than fucking you in the ass!

Tori: (laughs) We were teasing him for awhile.

CJ: I usually don’t bring up interracial in interviews but you are quite an advocate for it. Did you get any grief for doing IR from the get-go?

Tori: I got grief from my agency and they told me it would shorten my career. From Day 1, I said I didn’t understand why they say that. I understand the stages and the stepping stones or whatever but what does skin color have to do with anything. There was a lot of differing opinion on it and what it came to was, fuck you in what you have to say, all I have to say is that’s racist. I was not interested in what they had to say all about that. I wanted to do what I wanted to do and I thought it was rude in the first place. I got flack from my agent but very quickly when they realized that my career wasn’t suffering, they shut their mouths.

CJ: Personally, I don’t even know why it’s a category, this is 2014!!!

Tori: That’s what I say. And you know what’s weird is that a white girl and a black guy or a black girl and a white guy, that’s interracial. But if you have Asa Akira, for example, with a white guy, that’s not interracial. But if she’s with a black guy, that’s interracial. How does that make sense?! It’s crazy, I don’t know why people are so caught up in all that.

CJ: What’s your favorite position?

Tori: My favorite position changes everyday. It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m feeling lazy; sometimes I’m feeling romantic; sometimes I’m feeling aggressive; sometimes I’m in a dirty, kinky mood. So it all depends. Sometimes I want to be in front of a mirror; sometimes I’ll want to be in the shower; sometimes I just want to be snuggled up in bed like a normal person. We have a peanut gallery chiming in here, Mimefreak says my favorite position is on my knees sucking his dick.

CJ: Well good for him!

Tori: Right? So I guess it changes every day.

CJ: What gets you excited sexually? What gets Tori wet?

Tori: It’s really less of individual actions but more of an overall feeling. If, for example, I’m in an aggressive mood then, yes, the hair pulling, the choking, the spanking, all of that gets me excited. So it depends on the mood. If we’re in the middle of some romantic sex and you try to flip the script and slap me across the face, I’m probably not going to be turned on by it. I’m gonna be, ‘Dude, I was totally feeling the spooning, why are we slapping each other now?’ So it has to go with what you’re doing. For me, what gets me turned in is really intense, really passionate sex. I think that’s the best way to describe it. I have multiple personalities, so it changes all the time. (laughs)

CJ: Did you watch your own scenes?

Tori: No because I’m a girl still. I’m very picky about myself. There are some angles I don’t want to see myself in. I would be very, very judgmental. I don’t like the sound of my voice being played back to me. That’s another thing that I’m very judgmental of myself about. The only thing I paid attention to were my photos. Photos I can easily change. I know what positions look good and don’t look good.

CJ: How often do you masturbate?

Tori: I don’t masturbate anymore. I’m not allowed to, that pussy’s owned! Fair play, he does not masturbate either. That cum is owned. If there is a drop spilled and I am not there to catch it, I am not happy. He knows that. So he saves it up for me.

Tori: You know, that’s what I like. I like big loads, that’s how it’s always been. For me, it’s a waste if it hits the floor. If it gets wiped off or thrown away or washed off, it’s a waste!

CJ: What have you learned sexually about yourself since joining the industry?

Tori: That I’m a lot more normal than I ever thought I was. There are so many people that are just like me. I thought that I was dirtier, more filthier, more sluttier and the truth is, that I’m not. I’m all of those things but so is everybody else. I used to feel very alienated because people hid their sexuality. And the more I got into the industry, I realized that people just hide. I think it’s very unfortunate and sad that people feel like they have to change who they are to impress other people or protect themselves from other people when those people are doing the same exact things!

CJ: What’s the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done off-camera?

Tori: Me and Mimefreak had a really drunken night and, this might be tame for other people, but for us this was a first. We decided to pee all over each other. (laughs) I was so nervous and I could not pee. It took me like 45 minutes to pee on him. (laughs) I was wasted and still couldn’t pee! I enjoyed it, it gave me goosebumps. I sat on the toilet and he peed on top of me and I had goosebumps all over my body. It was so hot, I loved it. And the moment has never come again, I’m sure it will. You don’t want to push too hard and try to do it more than you’re really ready for. You have to wait for the moment to come back.
