Derrick Pierce: The Bad Boy of Adult

Captain Jack interviews Derrick Pierce

After reading this interview, you’ll know why Derrick has that title. I wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley! LOL. Derrick has been in the adult industry for over a decade, thanks to a former girlfriend. He now works regularly and is one of the top male performers in the industry!

Captain Jack: I hear you were or are a certified public trainer?

Derrick Pierce: I was certified a long time ago. Now I’m going this year probably to get my NASM certification. That’s the National Association of Sports Medicine. I think I’m the #1 cross fit coach for a couple of years now.

CJ: So you’re still doing it?

Derrick: Oh, yeah. I actually hold a cross fit affiliate as well.

CJ: You also have some formal MMA training?

Derrick: I’ve been in mixed martial arts for about 20 years. I was in boxing for a couple years, judo for a couple of years.

CJ: Did you do it professionally too?

Derrick: No, I’m too old for that stuff. (laughs) I trained with MMA guys for four years off and on.

CJ: With all that going for you, how and why did you get into porn? The obvious reason is the women but there’s more to it than that!

Derrick: At the time that I started which was 8 years ago, I was making money and I wasn’t hurting but I wasn’t making the money I could make in adult. The girl that I was dating at the time also started in adult and it was kind of a joint venture. The conversation was her saying, ‘Well, you need to learn how to shoot. How to hold camera and how to work the lights!’ But that’s not something you can just walk on a set and learn how to do. People kept asking if I was talent and I told them that I’m the pervert that watches this stuff. And so her and I spoke about it on a couple of other occasions and she basically said that if I don’t have sex with other women for money that I’m crazy. After a few months of talking about it and seeing what the numbers looked like, she asked if I could do it. ‘Well, shit, I don’t know. I think so.’ So she said if I can get hired, try it and see how it goes. I basically lied my way onto my first porn shoot and I’ve been in it ever since.

CJ: Is that girl still in it?

Derrick: No, she retired a while ago. It was Lexxi Tyler.

CJ: How did your first shoot go?

Derrick: My first shoot was good. It wasn’t a horror story. It was extremely nerve wracking. The very first movie was for a now-defunct company, DVSX, and the director was Guy Capo. It was Gothsend 4 with Vanessa Lane, who was a stunner and now to mention a great fucking body. I think I made it because I pulled up in the driveway with a hard-on, ready to go. I wasn’t super confident, it was ‘Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God….what the fuck did I get myself into?’ At the time, there was a website called Pornstar Performance and it was used to rate talent. The director or producer would put comments down on your performance and attitude and stuff like that. I guess the scene went really well and Guy wrote some really nice stuff about me and some other producers read it and hired me and the rest is porno history.

CJ: 9 out of 10 guys thinks they can do porn, tell the world why it’s so difficult.

Derrick: To me it’s like showing up to the potential career that you’re looking for with just a college diploma. Just because you graduated doesn’t mean you know the job. It just means that you can interview. In our world, just because you have a hard-on, that doesn’t mean anything. Now you’re here to work, what can you do now? A lot of talent these days don’t learn the same way I did. Years ago, the main guys were Evan Stone, Steven St. Croix, Joey Ray and a few other guys. You didn’t have to learn about lighting or anything else or how to open up or kick out. I had to learn what the hell I was doing. The first cameraman who really broke it down for me was Miles Long. He was the one who pulled me through my paces as talent. He told me what I needed to do as long as I promised not to make him look like a fool. It was like homework all the time. That’s what’s hard about it, it’s the ability to perform under pressure. At the time, I was shooting for Nick Steel. He used to film these features that were 15-20 hour days for 2 days straight. You usually had 2 scenes on back-to-back days and you were on set for 15 hours easily. If your scene was at 2 in the morning, that’s when your scene was. And they wanted top notch performances. With feature stuff and these million dollar homes that they’re shooting in, they want production value. So where are you? You’re out by the fire in December when it’s 35 degrees out and they don’t give a damn that you’re naked and your nuts are in your stomach. That’s not their problem. It’s a huge job to make it seem like it’s so enjoyable. That’s the job. Anyone can hold a camera phone and have sex with someone you really like, that’s easy. Now, all I care about is that I know my call time and what I need to bring. Lots of times, it’s a surprise who I’m working with. If they tell me, cool, if not, I guess I’ll find out when I get there.

CJ: Now there are only about 20 guys in porn but women come and go all the time, all these young 18 year olds. Has there ever been a hottie that was so overwhelmingly gorgeous that it was hard to contain yourself?

Derrick: When Asa Akira first got into the business, I was infatuated. I never popped early but I was begging to work with her. I really, really, really wanted to work with Asa. Now Asa’s a good friend and her husband Toni’s a good friend. I always had a very, very innocent crush on her, I think she’s wonderful. Since the first time I met her, I thought she was awesome.

CJ: You have performed in a lot of parodies along with many gonzo features. Which do you prefer?

Derrick: They both have their place. One thing I noticed, just being talent, is that most people, guy and girl, fall on one side of the coin or the other. I like the fact that I can bounce back and forth. In between shooting something for Kink.com. Then the next day, I can shoot something for Digital Playground or Wicked. I like that. I like the variety of that. I know it sounds corny, but I dig the acting, I dig the process. It’s fun to play a role. A lot of people fall into that niche and they stay there. When I first started, all I saw was features. Then I fell into Brazzers and Naughty America, which is still role play. Nobody would hire me for hardcore. Red Light, Evil and all them thought, ‘Oh, he’s one of those feature guys who always pretends that he’s in love.’ And then I started shooting for Kink and then it came back that I’m a little too hardcore and they still wouldn’t hire me. I finally had to show them that I can do whatever they ask me to do.

CJ: You have also directed a few things.

Derrick: I like directing. I directed for Adam and Eve. I did a really cool vignette feature on BDSM called Pretty Tied Up which did pretty well for them. I did a full feature for Wicked called Tuff Love and I was actually nominated for Director of the Year for XBiz for that. And I directed a lot for Penthouse and a couple for Hustler. What I found out through directing is that I’m a really big pervert. (laughs) What I mean by that is that you think if you’re the talent, you’re the perv. No, it’s the guy that’s behind the camera that’s yelling, ‘Now grab his dick with both hands!’ That is the pervert because in their mind it’s pure fantasy and I found that watching others perform that I’m like, “You know what would be awesome right now is if she licked his ass. Hey wait! I’m the director, ‘Lick his ass!’”

CJ: You recently dropped your first mobile crossfit affiliate, Crossfit Drop. Tell me about that.

Derrick: I’ve been training crossfit for about three years, coaching for two. But you have to go to a location, an actual spot, to get trained. Everyone’s busy nowadays and makes excuses. I thought how cool would it be to have a mobile one? I could show up anywhere. You have an hour for lunch, so I can meet you in the parking lot. 30 minutes and you still have time to eat, change and go back to work. I redesigned a Silverado with all the equipment I need for training.

CJ: Is that only in LA or are you going to take it national?

Derrick: It’s only in LA now. I wish I could do more with it but I’m only one person. I have to develop coaches, so it’s a process.

CJ: You also have a new website, BangingPornstars.com.

Derrick: That was a bit of a fun side job for myself. Basically, the whole premise behind it is what do pornstars do when they’re not on set? What are their sex lives like off-camera? But there’s still a camera. It’s very unobtrusive. If it’s funny, it’s funny. If it’s hot, it’s hot. It’s not super-pornoed out where you yell action and she’s screaming at the top of her lungs. It’s really real life.

CJ: And how can the fans get ahold of you?

Derrick: The easiest way is Instagram, it’s DerrickPierce. I update from there for everything so that’s the easiest way to find me.
